Exhibiting Japan & East Asia related English books with imcbook at: Los Angeles Times FESTIVAL OF BOOKS, April 29-30, 2006 This will be the 11th FOB organized by the LA Times and UCLA. Attendance is FREE. Over 130,000 people are expected to attend. This is probably the biggest USA book fair. The price is right; the location is great. "imcbook" (that's us) and "JPGS" (Japan Publications Guide Service [see NOTE 3 below]) will be one of the hundreds of exhibitors. As in 2005, we will focus on English books from Japan by expat authors and by Japanese who write in English. Some great books. Many of these books are seldom seen at the big chain retailers because they are not stocked by the big U.S. distributors. In addition to exhibiting at FOB, imcbook will send information on the exhibited titles to over 1,000 independent book retailers and to chains throughout the USA; and the books will be displayed at the Asian Studies Conference Japan held at ICU, Tokyo in June; and they will be listed on the website http://imcbook.net from now and throughout the 2006-07 year. If you are an author or small publisher, we would be happy to include your relevant book(s). To exhibit your book(s) or distribute your catalogs at FOB please read the following and carefully follow instructions. If you have questions, call Kuniko Ito or Warren Ball at 03-3876-3073 or fax 03-3876-3627, or email kunikoi@imcbook.net. EXHIBIT BOOKS - There is NO CHARGE but you must send one copy of each book to our Tokyo office AND one copy of each book to our Tujunga (Los Angeles) address. The books you supply for the exhibit will not be returned. You should also send one copy (for our office use) of your catalog(s) in English to our Tokyo office. [See Note 1 below.] The addresses are:
DISTRIBUTE CATALOGS - There is a charge of Yen 10,000 per kilogram (or fraction thereof) to exhibit and distribute catalogs. One copy of your catalog should be sent to our Tokyo office and the other copies should be sent to our Los Angeles address. The Yen fee must be prepaid. DO IT NOW! - In order to make sure that books and catalogs arrive in Los Angeles in time, we suggest you mail them from Tokyo (or wherever you are) by cheap airmail (printed matter or SAL) no later than March 20. If sent later, you will need to use a more expensive air shipper. [See Note 2 below.] As we must make a list of exhibit books, you should also be sure to send your sample books (one of each) to our Tokyo office before March 20. Contact us NOW if you want your publications exhibited or have questions. Tell us what books/catalogs you plan to have us exhibit for you even if you are not yet ready to send them to us. We can accept books/catalogs from you at our Tokyo office now. Books/catalogs can also be accepted in Los Angeles anytime after February 1. WHAT PUBLICATIONS CAN BE DISPLAYED - All types of priced books in English if published in/on Japan (or East Asia) may be exhibited. Unpriced books and magazines will be treated the same as Catalogs, and they must pay the same fee as catalogs. Ask us if you have any doubt. Publications in Japanese or other languages cannot be accepted. Bi-lingual English-Japanese books will be accepted. AFTER THE FESTIVAL OF BOOKS ... POSSIBILITY OF DISTRIBUTING SOME BOOKS IN JAPAN AND/OR ONLINE - After the 2005 FOB, at imcbook we were able to begin sales of several books that had been exhibited. Some books do not sell despite our best efforts, but several books have sold well enough that imcbook (or IMC) has decided that it would like to add more books. If your book could benefit from some distribution effort, if you would like it listed on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.jp, please contact Warren Ball at email imcbook@attglobal.net. Please use the Subject "BOOK DISTRIBUTION" to make sure that your message is seen and not trashed. Best regards, http://imcbook.net NOTE 1: If your book was exhibited by IMC at FOB in 2005, it is still in the exhibit list unless you ask us to remove it. Even if you do not supply new display copies, the title will be included in the exhibit list and the online list. NOTE 2: In most cases books sent by SAL (cheap unregistered printed-matter post office air) from Japan to the USA will arrive within three weeks. They should arrive within two weeks, but they often take four weeks or more. SAL is low priority air from Japan to USA, then surface within the USA. NOTE 3: JPGS (Japan Publications Guide Service) maintains a database of publishers and publications relating to Japan and East Asia. JPGS does not sell books. Listing in the JPGS database online costs nothing. http://jpgsonline.com/ |
