Additional Facts and Comment on TOKYO: HERE AND HOW

Back around 2003 the Women's Group .... a very large and dedicated group of active gaijin residents and members of the Tokyo American Club .... put together a publication called TOKYO: HERE AND NOW. Note the NOW not HOW. Tokyo has changed in the last few years, Mount Fuji is still visible on a clear day. Sakura (cherry ) trees still blossom in spring, but there have been huge changes in transportation, cell phones, department stores, shopping centers, food and restaurants, and prices. Even the venerable Tokyo American Club is moving in a three-year hiatus during which the club will be rebuilt. In short, it became time for a new book, not just a travel guide but a book that can help anyone who becomes a resident or a longterm visitor. Thus the birth of TOKYO: HERE AND HOW. The book has dozens of special nooks and crannies, even slots for the storage and display of meishi (business cards), but the main portion is divided into the following ten sections:

Getting Oriented
Settling In
Getting Around
Education and Activities
Getting Involved
Medical and Emergencies
My Neighborhood Guides
Shops and Services
Taste of Tokyo
Enjoying Japan

There is something for everybody in THH and something for every aspect of your time in Japan. Some of the information is relevant only if you are in Tokyo, but anybody who lives/works in Japan is going to spend time in this metropolis. Other information in THH is relevant to all Japan visitors who are not Japanese citizens, not fluent in the languages, but are English speakers.

Here is one of the reviews for this book on Amazon:

"Tokyo Here and How is not only an easy-to-carry travel guide, it is a must have for anyone attempting to navigate the streets or subways of Tokyo. It is written without favor to the businesses and companies it highlights, so the reader is given accurate information about what is truly the best of Tokyo. This book gives the experienced Tokyolite as well as the novice travler to Tokyo, valuable information about how to navigate this city...from where to buy clothes that will fit, to how to take a bullet train out of the city, to the best places to take your kids for lunch that won't cost an arm and a leg! This book is packed with power, just like the remarkable women at the Tokyo American Club Women's Group who published it!"
