Book Shops around Japan that specialize in English

Shops are listed by area. You will find details as to open hours, address/map, etc on each shop's website. These are not the big chain store. Here you will find small personalized stores, some run by gaijin, others by Japanese who love English. Our original plan was to list used book shops, but we have altered the plan and now are also list shops that specialize in kids books and those that cater to the poet and creative writer community. If you like to shop from home, try the Amazon.co.jp box at the bottom of this page.

Infinity Books Japan New online store, reborn from the ashes of Caravan in Ikebukuro
Do you know more shops that specialize in English books. Osaka, Kyoto ..... anywhere in Japan. Tell us. Unlike most bookstores around Japan, these book stores are very personal, small, run by gaijin or Japanese who know and love books. They often sell books for far less than major-store prices for new books. If you search the shelves, you are likely to find a treasure that you would never find at Kinokuniya or Maruzen. These book stores sometimes offer other services such as meeting space, internet, coffee, and other stuff, even English lessons. If you have old books that you no longer want, don't trash them, turn them in at a used shop near you. You will not get rich, but you will at least get credit toward some gems on the shelf that you have not yet read. Recycling is good.
